21 April 2025
Savy Amira Women’s Crisis Centre (WCC), in collaboration with the Gender and Health Studies Group of Universitas Surabaya (KSGK UBAYA), organized a webinar under the theme #KerjaBarengLawanKekerasan titled “Supporting Gender Equality and Gender Justice in the Workplace.” The webinar opened with a presentation by N.K.E. Triwijati, Chair of KSGK UBAYA, who introduced a gender perspective by explaining the distinction between gender equality and gender justice, as well as the importance of intersectionality as a key approach to responding to various forms of gender-based violence (GBV). In her session, she highlighted a common misconception that remains normalized in society, particularly in educational settings, that gender issues are solely women’s issues. This misconception is often evident in public discussions around sexual violence cases on campus or on social media, where debates arise due to limited understanding of survivor-centered perspectives and the complex power dynamics involved in cases of sexual violence.

The second session focused on the importance of self-care for Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs), delivered by Dra. Astrid Regina Sapiie, M.Psi.T., Psychologist, Co-founder and survivor advocate at Savy Amira WCC. She encouraged participants to become more attentive to mental health risks commonly faced by activists, NGO workers, and survivor advocates—especially as the impacts are often invisible but deeply felt. These impacts may include increased irritability, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, decreased motivation, and loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities. She emphasized the importance of collective care within activist spaces, including developing consistent practices to release daily stress and recognizing early signs of mental exhaustion or burnout.
